Rangers Dreaming Of A Blue Christmas Over Jersey

After a brief trip down south, the New York Rangers are trending up, winners in their past two and and five of their past six.

They’ll look to continue the good vibes when the New Jersey Devils made another Sunday night visit to Madison Square Garden (7:30, MSG).

The Rangers (22-10-1) swept a pair of games in the southern parts of hockey, first beating Dallas on Thursday night before taking down the Nashville Predators last night in a 2-1 shootout victory. Rick Nash scored his second goal in as many games since coming back from injury, while Jimmy Vesey and Mats Zuccarello aaded the shootout tallies to ensure victory. Henrik Lundqvist, making consecutive starts for the first time in two weeks, made 31 saves in the win and allowed nothing in the shootout.

The Devils (12-12-6) also played last night, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Ottawa Senators at Prudential Center. Ex-Ranger John Moore scored the lone goal for New Jersey, who are mired in a 3-9-3 slump after beginning the year with a 9-3-3 mark.

The Rangers contributed to that slump last Sunday night, shutting out New Jersey 5-0. Antti Raanta stopped all 19 Devils shots, while five different Rangers tallied goals, including Brady Skjei, whose tally was the first of his NHL career. Chris Kreider and Brandon Pirri also had a goal and an assist each.

This will complete the two rivals’ set at Madison Square Garden this season, with the series finishing itself with a pair at Prudential Center later this winter.
