Rangers vs Blues
- Since the Rangers last game on Saturday night, a lot has happened off the ice for both teams as we get set for Monday night’s game
- First for the Blues, St. Louis fired head coach Drew Bannister after just 22 games without the interim tag. Subsequently the Blues hired former Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery just five days after he was relieved of his duties. This will be Montgomery’s first game in charge of the Blues on Monday evening. The former Bruins coach has the highest win percentage among any coach during his tenure in Boston
- For the Rangers , Chris Kreider is listed as day-to-day and won’t play on Monday night. In addition, according to a report from the media, Kreider along with captain Jacob Trouba are on the trade block in a memo made known to other GMs by Rangers GM Chris Drury. Ryan Lindgren’s name has also been mentioned in trade rumors. It appears as though, Drury is acknowledging this core is underachieving and that he needs to do something to shake it up
- With Kreider’s absence, Brett Berard will make his NHL debut alongside Mika Zibanejad and WIll Cuylle
- Berard is 5’9 and a former fifth round pick out of Providence back in 2020. Berard had 13 points in 16 games in the AHL for the Hartford Wolf Pack prior to his call up
- In Hartford, the 22-year-old played big minutes including power-play and penalty-kill and was known for his energy and ability of forechecking. Berard appears to be on the Blueshirts second power-play unit on Monday evening
- The Blueshirts are looking for a jolt and adding Berard’s non stop attitude could be exactly what this team needs
- “He’s in your face,” said head coach Peter Laviolette. “He’s in the battles, in the corners, in front of the net. He plays a fast style. He gets in there. He’s determined.”
- Berard was not the only player to be called up as Matt Rempe was recalled from the Wolf Pack. The fan favorite has played in just three games this year, but the Blueshirts know they will get energy and hard hitting from the 6’9, 255 pounder
- Chad Ruhwedel and Victor Mancini have been sent back to Hartford to make room for the new additions. With just six defensemen on the roster, Zac Jones must be ready to return to action, after missing the game in Edmonton
- Filip Chytil remains day-to-day and won’t be in the lineup. Jonny Brodzinski will be the healthy scratch for New York
- Jordan Kyrou leads the Blues in points with 18 points in 22 games. Former Ranger Pavel Buchnevich is second on the team with 13 points
- St. Louis made a couple of eyebrows raise this past offseason after acquiring restricted free agents Dylan Halloway and Phillip Broberg from the Oilers. Edmonton did not match either offer and instead took a second and third round pick as compensation
- Joel Hofer will start for the Blues in Montgomery’s first game in charge. Hofer is 3-3-0 with an .893 save percentage
- Igor Shesterkin will be back in goal for the Rangers. Shesterkin is 8-5-1 with a .914 save percentage
Bet of the Night
The bet of the night is for Artemi Panarin to record 4+ shots. Panarin has been at 3+ shots or more in seven of the last eight games. His line now enters as the clear cut number one line and the ice time should show it. With the Blueshirts struggling, expect Panarin to look to lead the way and try to get on the score sheet. At -120, a $5 bet would pay $9.16 for a profit of $4.16
Current record: 4-6
Current Money Total (Based on $5 bets) – We are down $13.90 on the season
