Rangers vs Oilers
- The Rangers will look to rebound after a disappointing effort against the Flames. New York allowed 49 shots and were thoroughly outplayed
- Edmonton was defeated in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final last season by the Florida Panthers
- However, after a Stanley Cup Final appearance, they have started out rather disappointingly after 21 games with just ten wins
- Leon Draisaitl leads the team in points and goals with 15 goals and 28 points
- Connor McDavid has 25 points, but he has played three less games
- Part of the key struggles for the Oilers out of the gate involves not getting enough production out of their secondary scorers
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has nine points
- Zach Hyman has eight points
- Jeff Skinner has seven points
- Viktor Arvidsson has five points
- Another big reason for the Oilers struggles includes poor goaltending
- Stuart Skinner is 6-6-2 with an .876 save percentage. Skinner will start on Saturday night against the Blueshirts
- Calvin Pickard is 4-3-0 with an .893 save percentage
- The Rangers made an interesting move by sending down extra forward Jake Leschyshyn and called up defenseman Victor Mancini. Mancini took a flight to Edmonton and arrived at the hotel early in the morning on Saturday
- Mancini’s call up means the Blueshirts have eight defensemen including Chad Ruhwedel who was serving as the seventh defenseman.
- Zac Jones is listed currently as day-to-day
- Filip Chytil remains day-to-day and won’t play against the Oilers
- Jonathan Quick will get the start for the Rangers. Igor Shesterkin took a puck up high in practice on Saturday, but later returned to the ice. Quick starting was always the plan and Shesterkin taking the shot up high did not have any impact on that decision.
- Quick is 4-0-0 with a .970 save percentage and is coming off back-to-back shutouts of the Red Wings and the Kraken
- Will Cuylle and Alexis Lafreniere added goals to their tallies in Calgary to bring their point totals to 15 on the season. With a goal each, the two young forwards are now tied for the second most points on the team among forwards with Mika Zibanejad now solely in fourth
