Previous Game

The Blueshirts are coming off a tough 3-1 defeat to the Florida Panthers. Florida controlled the majority of the game and showed why they were the champs – even without their captain Aleksander Barkov. Sergei Bobrovsky, who hasn’t had the best of starts to the season, had his best game of the season by far and was a major difference maker for the Panthers. The turning point of the game came when Bobrovsky made a spectacular save with his toe stretching as far as he could. Florida would counter and extend their lead shortly after to expand their lead to 3-1.

Rangers vs Ducks

New York will now turn their attention to the young Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks are in the middle of a youth movement and they have some talented players who are beginning to crack the NHL roster.

Leo Carlsson – 19-years-old – 1st round pick (2nd overall in 2023)

Mason McTavish – 21-years-old – 1st round pick (3rd overall in 2021)

Pavel Mintyukov – 20-years-old – 1st round pick (10th overall in 2022)

Isac Lundestrom – 24-years-old – 1st round pick (23rd overall in 2018)

Trevor Zegras – 23-years-old – 1st round pick (9th overall in 2019)

Cutter Gauthier – 20-years-old – 1st round pick (5th overall in 2022)

Jackson LaCombe – 23-years-old – 2nd round pick (39th overall in 2019)

Owen Zellweger – 21-years-old – 2nd round pick (34th overall in 2021)

Tristan Luneau – 20-years-old – 2nd round pick (53rd overall in 2022)

Anaheim is building a young core that is slowly coming up together. Leading the young ducks are veterans such as 27-year-old Troy Terry who leads the Ducks in scoring with five points in six games.

Former Ranger, Ryan Strome is now 31-years-old and is being asked to help contribute and be a mentor for the young kids. Strome has a wealth of experience and he can relate a lot to the young kids as he was a top five selection by the New York Islanders back in 2011. The Canadian native would struggle early on in his career and he became an Oiler after just four seasons. He was later traded to the Rangers for Ryan Spooner where he revitalized his career and became an important piece for the Blueshirts.

The Ducks acquired free agent Alex Killorn prior to the start of last season. The 35-year-old is a former two time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Killorn brings a different dynamic as he was more of a role player for the Lightning who knew his job and could contribute with the scoring and the physical aspect of the game.

John Gibson has not been available for the Ducks to start the season as he is finishing recovering from an appendectomy. Gibson is expected to compete with 24-year-old Lukas Dostal for the starting job as the season progresses. Anaheim will be left with a three-headed monster in goal including veteran James Reimer. Expect the Ducks to try and solve the issue whether it be through waivers or a trade with Reimer. Gibson’s name came up in trade rumors this past season, but nothing was ever close to being done. Gibson likely won’t be available Saturday night against the Rangers, but he did join Anaheim on their road-trip.

With the Rangers off on Friday, the big news that was announced was that Alexis Lafreniere has signed a seven-year extension with the Rangers worth a cap hit of 7.45 million dollars per season. Lafreniere has really been starting to come into his own since the back half of last season. If Lafreniere continues his growth, this contract could be looking like a bargain in a few years time. The next big name the Blueshirts and General Manager Chris Drury will look to lock down is Igor Shesterkin.

For New York, look for Zac Jones to rejoin the lineup after sitting for the past three games. With Chad Ruhwedel sent to Hartford, Victor Mancini has earned his place on the Rangers roster to open the season. However, Mancini is expected to be a healthy scratch for the first time to make room for Jones.

Matt Rempe was also sent down to Hartford to get some regular game time. Rempe quickly became a fan favorite last season after being called up for the Stadium Series game against the Islanders. The move to Hartford will at least let Rempe get some game time rather than sitting in the press box.

Jake Leschyshyn was recalled from Hartford and he will serve as the 13th forward temporarily.

Jimmy Vesey is getting closer to returning to the lineup, but Vesey must miss at least the next three games as he was placed on the long term injured reserve list (LTIR). Players placed on LTIR must miss a minimum of ten games before being allowed to return to the lineup.

Jonathan Quick will get the start for the Blueshirts. It is no secret the Rangers want to keep Shesterkin as fresh as possible for the playoffs. Quick has played in just one game this season and a game against a western conference team gives him the perfect chance to get back in between the crease. New York has two division games in their next three games following Saturday night including a meeting with their crosstown rivals in Long Island.

Bet of the Night

The bet of the night is a three-leg parlay based around Lafreniere and that second line. The second line has had a strong start to the season and they’ll get a good matchup against a young Ducks forward core. The first leg is for Lafreniere to record over 0.5 points and the second leg is for Lafreniere to record two shots on goal. The Quebec native is currently averaging a point-per-game and he has had at least two shots on goal in six of their seven games this season. The last leg is for Artemi Panarin to record an assist which he has in four of the last five games. With the odds at +176, a $5 bet will pay $13.80 for a profit of $8.80.

Current record: 3-1

Current Money Total (Based on $5 bets) – We are up $7.77 on the season
