Rangers vs Wild
- The Rangers have lost their last four games going back to the overtime defeat last Wednesday against the Capitals. This streak includes defeats in crucial games including the Blue Jackets and Senators, prior to losing to Winnipeg on Tuesday.
- The Rangers currently sit two points behind the Blue Jackets for the final wild card position and they have played one more game than Columbus.
- They are also tied with Detroit and Boston on 68 points as all three teams have played 65 games
- Adam Fox is on the ice practicing and progressing but head coach Peter Laviolette told the media that nothing has changed and that he is still on the IR
- Jonathan Quick has signed another one year contract and he will back up Igor Shesterkin next year as he turns 40.
- Shesterkin will start in Minnesota tonight as he is coming off a strong performance against the Jets.
- The one noticeable change to the lineup is the swapping of Will Cuylle and Alexis Lafreniere in the lineup. Cuylle will join Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck while Lafreniere will join J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad
- Leading the Wild in points is Matthew Boldy who has 55 points on the season. Marco Rossi is second on the team with 53
- One player the Wild are desperately missing is their superstar Kirill Kaprizov who underwent back surgery in January and is considered week-to-week.
- Kaprizov had 52 points in 37 games prior to the injury
- Joel Eriksson Ek is also considered week-to-week as is defenseman Jonas Brodin. That gives Minnesota three injuries to key contributors
- The Wild acquired Gustav Nyquist at the trade deadline for a second-round draft pick and they acquired Justin Brazeau from Boston for two depth players.
- Filip Gustavsson will start for the Wild and he is having a stellar season in goal. Gustavsson is 25-14-3 with a .915 save percentage.
- Arthur Kaliyev has picked up an injury and he has returned to New York. That makes Jusso Parssinen the lone healthy scratch at forward
