Sunday night hockey under the lights at Madison Square Garden — it doesn’t get much better than this. The New York Rangers are riding a high with back to back wins, and the Washington Capitals are next up on the chopping block.
These two Metro Division rivals haven’t faced off since March, when the Rangers pulled off a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at home. A lot has changed since then — and right now, it’s the Blueshirts who are rolling.
After a rough preseason (2-4) and a flat 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh in the home opener, the Rangers have completely flipped the script. They blanked Buffalo 4-0 on Thursday, then absolutely steamrolled the Penguins 6-1 on Saturday.
Adam Fox was a monster in that one — two goals and an assist — showing exactly why he’s one of the league’s elite defensemen. Adam Edström, Noah Laba, and Sam Carrick all notched a pair of assists as well. The offense is clicking, the defense is sharp, and Igor Shesterkin looks locked in between the pipes.
The Caps, on the other hand, are still finding their rhythm. After a solid preseason where they went 5-1 (their only loss also to Boston), Washington opened the regular season with another 3-1 defeat to the Bruins. They did manage to bounce back Saturday with a 4-2 win over the Islanders, powered by Aliaksei Protas’s two goals and an assist, plus tallies from Martin Fehervary and Ryan Leonard.
This one’s going to be a real test for both teams. New York has dropped 10 goals in their last two games, and if they keep playing like this, MSG’s going to be rocking all night.
Let’s keep it rolling, LETS GO RANGERS!. 🔵⚪🔴
