Rangers Seek Much Needed Win Against Last-Placed Flames

After suffering a defeat to the winless Sharks in overtime, the Blueshirts begin a four-game road trip in the Pacific northwest starting in Calgary (8:00PM on MSGSN).

Rangers vs Flames

The Blueshirts need a win in the worst of ways and there is perhaps no team they would rather face then the Flames. With that said, the Flames also need a win in the worst of ways and there may be no better team for them to play than the New York Rangers. The Flames have won five of their last six home games against the Blueshirts. New York were defeated by the winless Sharks in their last game and are loser of five of the previous six games.

Not much has gone right for the Flames since starting the season. After winning their first game in a shootout, the Flames have dropped eight-in-a-row. Their star players are all veterans who have had rough starts to start the season. Nazem Kadri has just five points on the season and is their team leader in scoring. Kadri is a minus nine on the season. Jonathan Huberdeau has just one point in four games. And on the backend, MacKenzie Weeger has just two points and is a minus ten which is on pace for the worst season of his career. 24-year-old goaltender Dustin Wolf who is projected to start on Sunday night has an .874 save percentage and a goals-against average of 3.68.

For the Rangers, Matt Rempe did not make the trip out west. New York recalled former first-round selection Brennan Othmann. The 22-year-old has yet to really make a mark in the league, but will get an opportunity to seize a spot. Othmann is slated to start on the third line with Noah Laba and Juuso Parssinen.

Igor Shesterkin is slated to start in goal for the Rangers. Shesterkin is coming off his worst game of the season where he allowed six goals in an overtime defeat, Shesterkin stopped just 18 shots even though the goals conceded were not due to poor play from the Russian netminder.

Taylor Raddysh is being rewarded for recording a hat trick against the Sharks. Raddysh will move up in the lineup to the top line with Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin as head coach Mike Sullivan looks for consistent offensive play. Raddysh leads the Rangers in goals with four.

Expect the boo-birds to be out for Adam Fox. Fox was originally a draft pick of the Flames, but opted to not sign with them and he was eventually traded to Carolina before being traded to the Rangers. The Long Island native typically gets booed in Calgary whenever he touches the puck and expect nothing different on Sunday night. Fox is currently tied for the team lead in points with seven.
