First Period
Dallas scored first at 1:09 after the Rangers caused a bad turnover. Rangers quickly fall behind 1-0. Not the beginning they had hoped for. On Shesterkin, the Stars had good early opportunities. The Rangers triumph over a Dallas icing. Kreider, who is positioned in front of the goal, stuffs it in to score his third goal of the year and knot the score at one. At 10:35, the Rangers get the first power play of the contest. Rangers were unable to benefit from Dallas’ penalty. The second part of the period was much better for the Blueshirts. Rangers late in the first period(17:29), Carpenter is penalized. Hockey is now 4 on 4 after Zibanejad receives a tripping penalty 21 seconds into the Powerplay. The opening period is tied 1-1. Second Period
The second period begins with 1:38 of power play time for the Rangers. Trocheck scores during the extra man. With help from Zibanejad the Rangers now lead 2-1. 31 seconds later, Dallas responds quickly to tie the score at 2. Rangers immediately resume their power play with the opportunity to retake the lead but were unsuccessful. Dallas switches goalies midway through the 2nd for an unmentioned reason. After making an ugly fall into the boards, Kravtsov exits the rink. He has had a very difficult start to the season. Rangers are now down a forward. At 13:15, Rangers are given a penalty. Power play efficiency today is 1 for 4. Zibanejad catches a gorgeous low pass from Panarin and reroutes it in the appropriate direction. Rangers take a 3-2 lead, but shortly after, they are penalized. Rangers have a strong penalty defense. Currently 2 for 2 today. Dallas ties the score 3-3 with 1:14 remaining in the second period after finding the puck in a scrum following an offensive zone faceoff. After the second period, the score is 3-3. Rangers 20 to Dallas 25 in shots.

Third Period
The third period does not see Kravtsov return to the bench due to an upper body injury. At 3:51, the Dallas Stars score after the Rangers turn the puck over. The Rangers’ coaching successfully challenges the play for being offside. The score is still 3 to 3. Jones joins the action in the offense zone and scores his first NHL goal. With 8:30 remaining in the third, the Rangers take the lead 4–3. Gauthier then finds his way to the net 20 seconds later and scores a beauty. Rangers lead now stands at 5-3. On the impending Dallas penalty, with 6:25 left in the third, Trocheck scores to put the Rangers up 6-3. Dallas gets a show of dominance late in the third searching for something to work with yet the Rangers penalty kill moves to 3 for 3 in the game.

Shesterkin made 25 of 28 saves and improves to 4-0-2 for the season.
