The Rangers won their third straight game against Carolina and fourth straight home game. Recall last May. Blueshirts outplayed Carolina in the postseason and the same vibes continued.

They trailed 3-2 after two periods of play but New York outscored their opponent 3-0 in the third period. They made rookie goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov doubt himself. K’Andre Miller scored the game-winning goal by deflecting a shot from Mike Zibanejad. Rangers received breaks including a final power play when Jordan Marintook was called for a broken stick. An absolute break and Rangers broadcaster’ Joe Joe Micheletti disagreed with the call. They capitalized on three power-play goals with two in the third period.

Coach Gallant said Miller made a couple of great offensive plays.

“It was a big goal,” head coach Gerard Gallant said. “They were probably not too happy with being on for three goals, but I’m not blaming them for the three goals, it’s a five-man unit out there. They were unfortunate situations where the puck went in our net. It was a huge goal for K’Andre. I thought he made a couple of great offensive plays and played a good solid game again.”

“Obviously, you never want to go into a period minus-three, but that’s hockey, that happens sometimes,” Miller said.

On Wednesday morning Chris Drury announced Jimmy Vesey’s contract had been extended by two years. Vesey turned in a training camp invitation. The contract now runs through the 2024-25 season. He has 12 points 6 goals and 6 assists.

Rangers head to Montreal on Thursday night.
