Rangers crumble against their arch rivals last night, 6-1.

Igor Shesterkin made 22 saves and Kevin Rooney scored the only goal in the second period.

Jacob Trouba left the game in the First Period with an upper-body injury. UPDATE: Trouba day-to-day and did not practice Wednesday.

Opinion:

Blueshirts were due for a loss. They dug a two deficit hole last Sunday and managed to tie, secure a point. In this game, they only won 35% of faceoffs and had multiple chances to be down a goal after two. Rangers top five forwards (Panarin, Buchnevich, Zibanejad, Kreider and Strome) were all scoreless. NY Post Larry Brooks wrote about this today (Link Below). https://nypost.com/2021/04/20/rangers-stars-crumble-under-pressure-again-in-worrisome-sign/

Brooksie take is spot on. Islanders shut down Panarin, last night. He mentions Canes did a similar strategy last Summer. Remember when Rangers went scoreless on Feb 8th in a loss against Isles? Similar strategy. Rangers play two more with Isles next Thursday and Saturday

Rangers have failed to get consistent scoring from their kids’ line (LaFreniere, Kakko, and Chytil). This line looks good for a game or two but that’s all. Chytil hasn’t looked great from his return from an injury in March. Chris Kreider scored over the weekend but has been non-existent the past three weeks. No scoring consistently besides Fox on the defense. Rangers fall six points behind Boston for the last playoff spot.

Rangers host Philadelphia tomorrow night at 7p.m.
