The New York Rangers defeated the Florida Panthers 6-2 on Monday night.
Mika Zibanajad, Adam Fox, and Artemi Panartin each had three points. Adam Fox scored the game’s first goal on a slapshot assisted by Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanajad four minutes and 24 seconds into the game.
Florida tied the score less than 2 minutes later on the Power Play. Carter Verhawghe scored.
Then Rangers matched Florida’s PPG with their own at the end of the period when Mika Zibanjad scored by Panaerin and Fox at 17:21.
Jimmy Vesey added to the lead in the second period.
“I think every team talks about scoring greasy goals,” said Jimmy Vesey. “But until you get a few, you don’t have them, I guess. We’re going to score plenty of goals off the rush and at five-on-five with our skill, but we got two goals from the blue paint tonight and a power-play goal and I think that makes us so much more dangerous as a team if we’re scoring in all situations.”
Rangers extended their 3-1 lead in the first 9 minutes of the third period. Goals by Alexis Lafreniere, his first in 18 games, and second from Zibanajad at 8:10.
Shesterkin made 33 saves and came within a foot of scoring a goalie goal into the empty net with 5:25 remaining in the third period.
Blueshirts head to Toronto on Wednesday night.
