The Blueshirts defeated Pittsburgh 8-4 last night at MSG. Artemi Panarin’s four points led the way.
Colin Blackwell scored the first goal on a deflection by Adam Fox. Mika Zibanejad scored on a rebound from the slot that patted the lead.
“Everyone contributed today and played well,” said Zibanejad. “I think we’ve been playing pretty well as of late and just got to get a little bit better, but overall I thought we played a good game tonight.”
Then Panarin made it 3-0 near the first ten minute mark of the first. Pittsburgh scored and Ryan Strome took back the three-goal lead at the end of the first period.
Both team drew a goal in the second. Alexis Lafreniere scored then Pittsburgh’s Mathenson scored on the Power Play.
Kappo Kakko scored, Jake Guentzel did as well to open the third. Adam Fox made it 7-3 with a shot from the circles.
“We just capitalized on our chances,” said Fox. “We got to the net a little more, got some goals around the crease.”
Buchnevich made it 8-3 and Pittsburgh scored one last time.
Igor Shesterkin made 41 saves and a career first four consecutive starts.
“He’s definitely going through that stretch right now and he seems to be in a great groove,” Quinn said of Shesterkin,”
Rangers trail Boston by five points as they beat Philadelphia.
Blueshirts host Pittsburgh tomorrow for the last matchup of the season.
