Islanders defeat Rangers 3-2 in overtime last night.

Rangers came out with a slow start in the first period and were down 2-0. They were outshot 17-8.

An unexpected pair of defensemen revived the blueshirts. Libor Hajak connected with a wrist shot through traffic from the left point. Assisted from the young line of Kakko and Chytil.

Brendan Smith connected with a one-time between the circles. Vitali Kravtsov regristered his first career point.

Ryan Lindgren almost gave the blueshirts the lead in the third when his shot from the left circle hit Scott Mayfield’s skate and went off the crossbar.

Ryan Pulock scored his first goal of the season in a game-winner in overtime.

“I certainly liked a lot about our second and third period,” Quinn said. “Disappointing we didn’t get the two points, but every point’s life and death right now. We’ve got to be better 3-on-3; [that’s] something we’ll probably work on here in the next practice. But I liked that we bounced back after a tough first period.

opinion:

Good job by picking up a point. This game had a letdown game all over it. Boston lost two games this weekend, Rangers are four points behind them. Blueshirts play four straight with New Jersey through Sunday. They need to win at least three out of four.

Rangers head to New Jersey tomorrow night.
